P. Venugopal is currently the chairman of Pondicherry Arya Vysya Educational Trust and Vaasavi Intermational School..

He was the Managing Director of Pondicherry Agro Service and Industries Corporation (PASIC) a Government of Pondicherry undertaking. He was actively involved in creating and setting up the "Pondicherry" Mineral water unit for the corporation.

He was involved in designing and development of advanced, efficient machinery at low cost for compost manufacturing. A patent was awarded by the Intellectual Property, India. He took voluntary retirement in 2005. He served as a member of the group of the Ministry of Urban Development Government of India in finalising Compost Plant Designs for the Country during 2005.

Prior to the above, he was working in the Industries Department, Government of Pondicherry from (1978 to 2001).

He did his BE in Industrial Engineering at Regional Engineering College, Trichy (1973-1978). He was in the first batch of Industrial Engineering branch of the Madras University.

He did his schoolings in St.Jospesh of Cluny & Petit Seminar High School, Pondicherry.

He was Ex-President of Arya Vysya Samajam, Pondicherry

He is the General Secretary of Pondicherry Senior Citizen's Welfare Association.
